The Secret LongTree Society – Film Screening & Nursery Planting

Join the Secret LongTree Society — and plant the future.

The Secret Long Tree Society and the Edmonton Federation of Community Leagues (EFCL) invite you to a powerful, hands-on evening that blends storytelling and legacy building. This unique event will feature a screening of the CBC documentary The Secret LongTree Society, followed by a live tree nursery installation and planting ceremony at the Royal Gardens Community League.

 What to Expect

  •  Watch the CBC documentary The Secret LongTree Society (runtime: 45 min)

  • Learn how your Community League can grow a LongTree nursery for the future.

  • Install a LongTree nursery and plant bristlecone pine (Pinus aristata) — one of the world’s longest-living tree species

  • Connect with neighbours, league members, and changemakers passionate about climate resilience and urban greening

This event is free and open to the public, especially:

  • Community League members across Edmonton

  • Urban sustainability advocates

  • Tree lovers, educators, and legacy dreamers

Big Bin & Electronic Recycling Round Up

Clear out the clutter and recycle responsibly!
Join us for our Big Bin Event & Electronic Recycling Drive, where residents can drop off large household items and old electronics for safe, eco-friendly disposal — free of charge for members of Royal Gardens & Greenfield.

Accepted Items:
✔️ Household furniture items (e.g., couches, chairs, mattresses)

✔️ Dry yard waste, including branches not exceeding 1.2 meters (4 feet) by 0.75 meters (2.5 feet) in diameter.

✔️ Lawnmowers (please ensure all fuel has been removed)

✔️ Scrap metal

✔️ Small household or office electronics (e.g., computers, televisions, etc., will be recycled)

✔️ Small household appliances (e.g. microwaves will be recycled)

✔️ Tires

Not Accepted:
Please note that the following items will not be accepted at the Big Bin or Electronic Recycling Drive. For many of these items, please use your nearest Eco Station.

  • Household hazardous or organic waste

  • Automotive waste (e.g. oil, antifreeze, filters)

  • Animal waste (including litter or carcasses)

  • Commercial or business waste

  • Fluorescent tubes and ballasts containing PCBs

  • Large appliances (fridges, freezers, stoves, etc.)

  • Lithium-ion batteries

  • Pressurized tanks (e.g. propane, butane, polyurethane insulation tanks)

  • Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

  • Wet yard waste (sod, soil, leaves, grass clippings)

  • Mattresses

👉 Tip: For proper disposal of hazardous or specialized items, visit your local Eco Station.

This event is open to residential households only — no commercial or business drop-offs.

Working Bee Spring Clean Up

Working Bee Spring Clean Up

The first work bee is Saturday, May 31, 2025

Starting at 10:00am until 11:00(ish).  

We will focus on an overall spring clean up of the garden (raspberries, paths, fruit trees, herb box, compost).  And what a great way to get to know your fellow gardeners.  Be sure to bring your garden gloves and hand tools. 

And don't forget, we'd love to have you join the garden committee!
